Every email goes to the people who write and update the site. Here are the things we most want to hear about.
Corrections
If a startup cost, price, income range, or licensing note looks wrong for your area, please tell us. Include:
- The page and the idea or section (a copied link is perfect).
- What you believe is wrong, and what you think it should say.
- Your location, if the issue is regional, and a source link if you have one. A source helps but isn't required.
We check each correction against the methodology described on our About page and update the page's date when we fix it.
Idea and topic suggestions
Know of a real, unusual business we haven't covered, or found a step that's glossed over in how to start a business? Send it over. If you run the business yourself, typical prices, startup costs, and the mistake you wish you'd avoided are especially useful. A two-line email can shape what we write next.
Press and research
Journalists, teachers, and researchers are welcome to quote or cite the site with a link back. If you need context on how a figure was estimated, ask and we'll explain.
What to expect
We're a small team, and the inbox isn't staffed around the clock. Most emails get a reply within three to five business days, and corrections come first. If something important goes a week without a reply, a short follow-up is welcome.
We can't give personal legal, tax, or financial advice by email. For decisions like choosing a business structure, read LLC vs. sole proprietorship and then speak with a qualified professional in your state. How we handle the emails you send is covered in our privacy policy.
